Club Expectations

WSC values and appreciates feedback, both positive and negative.  However, negative feedback in the heat of the moment does not always come across as constructive.  Therefore, WSC requests that all negative feedback, comments, or concerns be sent after a minimum of 24 hours have past.  This rule applies to all communication to coaches, team administrators, other parents/guardians, team mates, and the WSC board.  The one exception to this rule is safety.  We always welcome immediate feedback if you are concerned with an injury or other safety matter.   

• Exhibit good sportsmanship to teammates, coaches, referees, parents and opponents.
• RESPECT yourself, your teammates, your coaches, and referees.  WORK hard.  Play SELFLESSLY.  Stay POSITIVE.  TRUST your teammates' abilities.
  Notify coaches and parents of an injury.
• Develop your skills and have fun.

• Be respectful of all players, coaches, referees, other parents, and opponents.  
• Please notify the coach if your child will miss a practice or game to make planning easier. If you need help with rides, please reach out to the coach and other parents. 
• Let the coaches give instructions to players during a game. Several instructions from different sources during a game can overwhelm and confuse the players.
• Understand that player development is a priority over winning. 
• WSC has a ZERO tolerance policy on disrespect to referees, coaches, players, or other teams.  Parents are expected to review and understand the Soccer Maine Referee Abuse Policy found here: Soccer Maine Referee Abuse Policy
• Read and agree to the WSC Anti-Bullying policy WSC Anti-Bullying Policy

• Review and understand the Soccer Maine handbook for your respective league.
  Follow the coach handbook to ensure the players are learning soccer based on WSC’s philosophies.
• Take the appropriate coaching courses through the U.S. Soccer Learning Center.
• Lead by example when it comes to sportsmanship and respect.  Coaches are expected to review and understand the Soccer Maine Referee Abuse Policy found here: Soccer Maine Referee Abuse Policy
  Player development is a priority over winning. As a coach, one of the biggest rewards is to see a player’s fundamental skills grow throughout the season. 
• Youth coaches have the opportunity to teach young players life values such as hard work, team commitment, sportsmanship, and team spirit. 
• Build your practice or game plan before you arrive on the field and set a routine for players if they show up to the field before the coaches. 
• All players will receive an equal chance to contribute meaningfully to each game.  As required by Soccer Maine, all players U11 and under will receive minimum approximately 50% playing time.  All players U12 and up will be provided a minimum of 1-2 playing opportunities per half (minimum of approximately 10 minutes per half at all levels).
• If there are multiple coaches on a team, define coach roles at the beginning of the season.
